Article: The Sherwani Summit

The Sherwani Summit

“Why isn’t Zelensky wearing a suit?”

Tired of the commentary — and convinced they could “fix the optics” — Donald Trump and JD Vance decided to personally take the Ukrainian president suit-shopping.

But instead of a luxury store in D.C., the motorcade made a glorious diplomatic detour to our atelier in Banaras.

Inside, under the warm glow of jacquard-card lamps, stood Gautam ji, our sales expert — calm, confident, crisp white kurta-pyjama, and the smile of a man who has handled more confused customers than this new lot.

Trump didn’t waste a second.
“We need a suit. A great suit. The greatest suit. For him.”
He jabbed a finger at Zelensky.

Gautam ji didn’t blink.
“Sir, we don’t make Western suits.”

A beat.
Vance looked ready to file a trade complaint.

“But we do have something far more presidential.”

He unfurled a black Banarasi Damask Tanchoi Sherwani — regal, silent, uncompromising.

Then, with a diplomatic precision strike, he handed it to Zelensky:

“Sir, ye dekhiye black sherwani. Aapko, aur apke watan ko buri nazar se bachaegi.”
(This black sherwani for you. To protect you and your nation from the evil eye.)

Trump’s eyes widened.
“This is incredible. Why didn’t anyone tell me India made this?
I wouldn’t have put tariffs—
well, okay, I still would have—
but at least I would’ve felt bad putting them.”

Vance examined the weave like it contained classified intel. He leaned in.
“Volodymyr… this suits you really well. I really think you should say thank you to Gautam ji.”

Zelensky nodded, earnest and grateful.
“Thank you.”

Trump, already imagining headlines, pointed at the sherwani again.

“Do you make this in white? I’d love to wear it when I go to receive my Nobel Peace Prize.”

Gautam ji folded his hands. “Yes, sir. We can prepare that as well.”

And just like that, the global suit controversy ended— not with diplomacy, but with a Banarasi sherwani quietly winning the argument.
